The Rilke Trail

One of the most beautiful and suggestive walks overlooking the Gulf of Trieste is surely the one that, by the sea, connects Sistiana to Duino. The path takes its name from the poet R.M. Rilke, who had been at the Castle of Duino at the beginning of the last century, as he had been Dante before, composed his famous "Elegie Duinesi"

Park the car in the slag at the AIAT of Sistiana (at the beginning of the road leading to Sistiana mare) and take the path that, on the right, crosses the steep cliff by first passing the campsite and then crossing the wood and stones .

During the route, there are open warships on the sea and there are numerous possibilities to leave the trail (always very well marked) to return to the highway.

Continuing the walk until the end, you come to the United College of United Nations, whose garden, although accessible, is privately owned.

Always at the end of the walk you can reach the Duino Castle, a historic residence of the Thuring und Taxis principles, which, open to the public since 2003, can be visited every day (except Tuesday) from 9am, 30 at 17.30. To visit the castle, its magnificent park overlooking the sea and the bunker built during the Second World War now transformed into a charming mini-museum with vintage relics, take right, towards the state road, and then follow the signs to The castle concierge, just a few minutes walk.
